A lot, as it turns out.

When we think about leadership, words like strategy, vision, and execution often take center stage. But there’s another word—one that’s less commonly associated with leadership—that holds immense power: love.

At first glance, love might feel out of place in conversations about quarterly goals, organizational change, or high-pressure boardroom meetings. But when you look closely, you’ll realize that love is not only relevant—it’s essential.

Leadership Begins with Vision

Every great act of leadership begins with a Vision—a picture of something you want to create that doesn’t exist yet.

  • A healthier workplace culture.
  • A product or service that solves a deep human need.
  • A team that operates with trust, respect, and purpose.

Vision is the spark, the thing that propels leaders to step forward and say, “This is worth working for.”

But a Vision on its own isn’t enough.

Commitment: The Bridge Between Vision and Reality

To bring your Vision into being, you need Commitment.

The path from vision to reality is rarely smooth. It’s not a straight road—it’s a winding journey filled with challenges, missteps, and moments of doubt.

  • There will be days when things don’t go according to plan.
  • There will be moments when fear creeps in, whispering that you’re not enough or that success is out of reach.
  • There will be times when others won’t see what you see, and you’ll have to stand firm in your belief.

Commitment is what keeps you showing up, even when the road is difficult.

And what fuels that commitment?

Passion: The Fire That Keeps You Going

Passion is the emotional energy that sustains commitment.

It’s the fire in your belly. The thing that makes you stay late, get up early, and keep pushing forward even when the obstacles seem insurmountable.

But passion, like any fire, needs something to keep it burning.

And that fuel?

It’s Love.

Love: The Heartbeat of Leadership

At its core, love is about caring deeply—about your vision, your team, your mission, and the people you serve.

Love is what keeps you tethered to your “why” when the “how” feels impossible.

It’s what drives you to:

  • Have the hard conversations that no one wants to have.
  • Show compassion and understanding when someone on your team is struggling.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable—not out of punishment, but because you care enough to want the best outcome for everyone involved.

Love doesn’t mean you have to be soft or overly sentimental.

In fact, love in leadership can be fierce.

It can mean standing firm when it would be easier to fold.
It can mean saying “no” when the easy answer would have been “yes.”
It can mean advocating for someone who isn’t in the room to advocate for themselves.

My Vision: A World Held Together by Love

My own vision as a leader is this:

A world where we treasure our collective humanity, where we find ways to coexist peacefully, and where our differences are celebrated rather than weaponized.

This doesn’t mean we’ll never face disagreements or see things differently.

It doesn’t mean every moment will be harmonious.

But it does mean that we don’t have to destroy each other over our differences.

It means we can face challenges with curiosity rather than suspicion.
It means we can approach disagreements with a desire to understand, not win.

This vision might seem lofty, even idealistic. And yes, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when thinking about it at a global scale.

But rather than getting paralyzed by the enormity of the task, I choose to focus on what’s right in front of me.

I focus on bringing this vision to life in the organizations I work with, the teams I coach, and the individuals I support.

One conversation at a time.
One relationship at a time.
One small shift at a time.

What About You?

Every leader has something they care deeply about—something they would do anything to bring into being.

  • Maybe it’s a workplace where people feel safe, valued, and heard.
  • Maybe it’s a team that feels connected and collaborative.
  • Maybe it’s a product or service that changes lives in a meaningful way.

Whatever it is, love is what will sustain you through the journey.

So let me ask you:

What do you love so much, that you’d do anything to bring it into being?

And when challenges arise—because they always do—will you allow love to guide you forward?

Because in the end, leadership isn’t just about what you achieve.

It’s about how you show up—for yourself, for your team, and for the world around you.

And love?

Love is the most powerful way to show up.
